Troop 11 New Parent Meeting

Posted by BlogAdmin on 19th May 2010

We will be holding our annual Parent Meeting on Wednesday Evening, May 26 during the regular scout meeting in the Scout Hall.

The Parent Meeting will start promptly at 7:15 p.m. after the scouts have had a chance to get organized for their evening’s activities.

This is a mandatory meeting and we ask that at least one parent for each scout be present at the meeting.

The meeting should last no more than 45 minutes and be an opportunity for you to get updates on leadership changes in the troop, activities coming for summer including summer camp and learn about the help we will need from you for the coming year.

For new scout parents we will also be discussing advancements and troop processes that will help you support your son in the troop.

Troop 11 Summer Camp

Posted by BlogAdmin on 8th May 2010
Yes, summer camp is quickly coming upon us. Here is what you will need to help make your sons summer camp a success.
Medical Forms for all boys are required. Of the 75 boys in the troop, we have only a few that are up to date. Please have your medical form to Mr. Junnila by June 9.  See the following link for medicals and permission slips. http://troop11-gec.org/ they are located at the bottom under Troop links.
Permission Slips are due by June 9th also and need to be given to Ms. Untalan.
Plan merit badges. Please encourage your scouts to plan ahead their week. There is all kinds of wonderful activities at Royaneh. Have them work with some of our older boys in the troop to validate they are targeting the right items. If you are planning on doing any Eagle required badges, make sure you plan your pre-requisites ahead of time.
Transportation is a problem this year. We have four ASMs going to camp and 38+ boys. We could really use parent volunteers to drive to and from camp. Please work with Angela Untalan if you can help. If we do not get drivers, we will have to rent a bus of Vans to get there.

Troop Elections

Posted by BlogAdmin on 8th May 2010

The troop is in the process of going through Troop Elections. I have decided to make one small change to this round of elections. We will be extending the elections period. Over the next few weeks please work with your boys for positions of responsibility that they may be taking on. On May 26, we will hold elections and announce our new positions on June 2 at our Court of Honor. All boys after 1st class are required to hold a position of responsibility for six months in order to advance to the next rank. Please help support your young men and encourage them to get involved in troop leadership.

Next Saturday, May 15 we will be doing a great day hike of ten miles. We will be going from Salmon Falls to Peninsula on Folsom Lake. We will need drivers to-and-fro for this event as it is a one-way hike. We will also be covering Map and Compass skills too. This is a requirement for 2nd class rank advancement.

Camp Royaneah Planning

Posted by BlogAdmin on 27th April 2010

Hello Troop11 Families,

Summer Camp, believe it or not is 60 days away. This is the time to start your planning with your sons. I have attached a planning quick guide for camp that I extrapolated from the Scoutmasters guide to camp. This is the 2010 edition and should be used as the Royaneh website still only has last years. This should be reviewed and discussed and have your scouts plan their time at camp. If you are requiring to leave camp early, please ensure that you use and deliver the form to me too.

There are all kinds of activities and programs along with Merit Badges they can do while at camp. I would encourage you to have your boys talk with older scouts that have been to simmer camp before and help them with the selection of merit badges and activities. Make sure you understand the costs associated with some of the activities and merit badges to and send a little extra so they can buy stuff at the trading post.

I am working with Camp Royaneh to get a 2010 Parents Guide, but don’t have that for you right now, once I do, I will notify you.

YIS,

Mr. Junnila
